Part 1: God Is Love
This first message sets the foundation for the entire series by establishing one core truth: love doesn’t originate with us, love comes from God, because God is love (1 John 4:7–12). Everything God does flows from His loving nature, and our ability to love others is a reflection of His love living in us. We don’t define love by feelings, culture, or personal preference. Love is defined by who God is and how He has revealed Himself most clearly through Jesus. Because God loved us first, we are called to love one another.
- God’s love is benevolent, gracious, and compassionate. He loves generously and intentionally, not based on our worthiness or effort. His goodness extends to all, and He gives freely, often before we even recognize our need.
- God’s grace is unearned favor. Salvation is a gift, not a reward. Like the father of the prodigal son, God runs toward us when we turn back to Him. Grace meets us where we are and restores us fully.
- God’s mercy and compassion move Him to action. Throughout Scripture, Jesus responds to broken, lost, and hurting people with healing, teaching, and care. God sees our need and enters our brokenness, not to condemn, but to restore.
All of this is anchored in John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." We love because He loved us first.
