Part 5: Pride is the enemy of Love

Pastor Hans concluded the series, Love: The Greatest Commandment by teaching that pride is the enemy of love. Galatians 5:6 reminds us that the only thing that truly counts is faith expressing itself through love, but pride shifts our focus from God and others to ourselves. Pride deceives us into thinking we are greater than we are (Galatians 6:3) and leads to comparison, judgment, and division. Scripture shows that pride was the root of Satan’s fall (Isaiah 14) and continues to produce the works of the flesh described in Galatians 5. Pride also breaks the Law of Christ because it causes us to judge others and elevate ourselves instead of loving them. The Bible repeatedly warns that “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

The solution is humility and walking in the Spirit. When we submit to God, the Holy Spirit produces the fruit of the Spirit; love, peace, kindness, and self-control, which reflects the heart of Christ.

In the end, pride leads to destruction, but humility allows our faith to be expressed through love, which is the heart of the greatest commandment.

If pride is keeping you from full surrender, forgiveness, or love…it's time to let it go.
